Celtic Information

Weโ€™re thrilled to remind you that the reminder of our Celtic team tryouts are coming up!

Just a quick reminder โ€” only registered players will be able to participate.

As per our Celtic program guidebook, โ€œThe final Celtic team lists will be decided by the Celtic head coach under the supervision of the Technical Director.โ€

- Players are expected to commit to both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

- Players who choose to participate in the spring season only will generally be placed on a Division 2 team if one exists, unless there are unforeseen circumstances reviewed and approved by the Technical Director.

- Players who commit to both the indoor and outdoor seasons but then choose to participate only in the indoor season-without informing the organization of this decision before team selections-will not be considered for team selection the following years.

Please contact the office if:

  • If your child has already played at the Celtic level, but from some reasons can not attend the tryouts (please let us know if you are still interested in participating).

  • If your child has never played Celtics before and cannot attend tryouts, please let us know and they will be invited for the first Celtic practice to determine if they have enough skills to join the team.

  • Please make sure you show up for your appropriate age group. As per Celtic guidebook nobody is allowed to play in older age group.

  • For any players ages U9-U13 who do not make the team but would like to improve their soccer skills, PAYSA offers free Celtic training every Friday 5:15-6:00 p.m. starting October 24th, here at the Alfred Jenkins Fieldhouse.

If you have any other questions, please contact our Technical Director at paysasoccertd@sasktel.net

What is PAYSA's Celtic Program?

The Celtic program operates under the governance of the Prince Albert Youth Soccer Association (PAYSA). The Celtic program was formed in 1989 to help those soccer players wanting to play highly competitive soccer and improve their skills while still participating in the house league recreational soccer program as well.

While PAYSA upholds the philosophy that soccer must always be fun, it is expected that Celtic players will have dedication to their sport and be prepared to demonstrate this dedication by endeavouring to attend all practices, games, and tournaments. The High Performance level will have a higher expectation of the players, with the understanding that that soccer will be the main commitment, and the first choice above all other extracurricular. Therefore, attendance at all times is mandatory.

In 2018, PAYSA introduced Club structure from two levels of training.

  1. The first level is our recreational House league, this concentrates on players having fun and developing a passion for play. They will experience success and build confidence by receiving positive recognition for participating. These are game only settings with no extra training involved.

  2. The second level is Celtic teams which will be our division 1 or 2 players who will be attending tournaments, Provincials and Club Days representing PAYSA. Players in this level will develop basic skills and continue to introduce advanced and position specific principles as well. Practises are twice a week with complex and demanding drills to address their strengths and weaknesses with the goal to improve. These players will also be participating in the House league first level.

Coaches are qualified to provide challenging opportunities for players to develop their abilities and pursue excellence at all levels. These coaches have been selected because they have shown this kind of commitment to the sport of soccer. Similarly, it is expected that players and their parents also show a real commitment to this Club!

  • Players are expected to commit to both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

  • Players who choose to participate in the spring season only will generally be placed on a Division 2 team if one exists, unless there are unforeseen circumstances reviewed and approved by the Technical Director.

  • Players who commit to both the indoor and outdoor seasons but then choose to participate only in the indoor seasonwithout informing the organization of this decision before team selections-will not be considered for team selection the following years.

As per our Celtic program guidebook, โ€œThe final Celtic team lists will be decided by the Celtic head coach under the supervision of the Technical Director.โ€

Decisions will be made based on the players skills and previous experience as well as the players who already participated in the Celtic program, but can not attend the tryouts.

Please contact the office if:

โ€ข If your child has already played at the Celtic level, but from some reasons can not attend the tryouts (please let us know if you are still interested in participating).

โ€ข If your child has never played Celtics before and cannot attend tryouts, please let us know and they will be invited for the first Celtic practice to determine if they have enough skills to join the team.

โ€ข Please make sure you show up for your appropriate age group. As per Celtic guidebook nobody is allowed to play in older age group.

If you have any other questions, please contact our Technical Director at paysasoccertd@sasktel.net

Kalli Cowles, has signed a professional contract to play soccer in the premier division in Australia!

Congratulations Kalli! Team Canada won silver. PAYSA is also proud!

On Friday, October 21st Iโ€™ll be flying out to Colombia to represent Team Canada on the National stage. I canโ€™t help but think back to where it all started; Prince Albert Celtic Soccer.

I started playing Celtics when I was 8 years old and have been playing the game every year since. When I think of youth soccer, a core group of 1998 players come to mind that no other city in the province wanted to play. We were physical, gritty, and had that never give up mindset. Most importantly, we were taught that our team is our family, and we protect our family at all costs. This is one of the many reasons why I make an effort to come back home to play soccer with my dad in Menโ€™s League. Even though he doesnโ€™t need my help and has taught me everything I know about soccer, I always want to be there to back him up ;). PA soccer made me into the unique player I am today and I couldnโ€™t be more grateful.

After high school, I went on to play 5 years of with the University of Saskatchewan Womenโ€™s Soccer Team. After my 3rd year, myself and a few teammates moved to Regina for the summer to play Semi-Pro in the UWS league throughout the United States. In fall of 2021 I finished my 5th season as a Huskie, ending University with a Degree in Sociology, and Minoring in Psychology. Summer 2022 came around and I decided I wasnโ€™t finished playing competitively yet, so I reached out to teams in League 1 Ontario and decided to play for Oakville Blue Devils. Fast forward to today, Iโ€™m playing on the Canadian National Futsal Team and going to represent my country at the AMF World Cup. What a ride itโ€™s been!

The above achievements are what people see on paper, but I think the more important things to take away cannot be written. Itโ€™s the lifelong relationships that Iโ€™ve built, the mistakes Iโ€™ve learnt from, the challenges Iโ€™ve pushed through, and the personal growth Iโ€™ve had from pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. The moments in between the thrilling wins or devastating losses are often forgotten about, but Iโ€™ve learnt they are some of the most important moments. Itโ€™s how you react to adversity that will ultimately determine your future.

To the players,

Enjoy exactly where you are right now. Being a part of a team sport is something that will undoubtedly help you in many areas of your life. Be the hardest worker in the room and donโ€™t forget to smile while youโ€™re at it. In order for you to excel, you have to enjoy what youโ€™re doing. Donโ€™t get me wrong, there will be moments where you question things, but push through those moments if you truly love the game. Itโ€™s a test that will make you stronger and even happier you decided to keep moving forward. Myself and multiple other people from Prince Albert have been exactly where you are and we want you to know itโ€™s very possible to play soccer at the next level. If youโ€™re reading this and have any questions, please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to me! I wish I had someone to ask questions to when I was younger.

Once a Celtic, always a Celtic.
